Cake Power

Brooklyn born baker Kate Sullivan’s cakes are as much about telling stories and creating experiences as they are about melting in mouths.

Kate’s been named one of the Top 10 Cake Artists of North America by Dessert Professional Magazine, she’s been awarded a Trendsetter of the Year Award from Modern Brides Magazine, and America's 50 Most Beautiful Cakes in Brides Magazine.  She’s appeared on the Martha Stewart show and the Food Network and is a winner of The Big Bake competition and Cake Hunters.  She’s created cakes for music and art legends, viewers on The Today Show, and glossies like Oprah’s O Magazine, with a style that ranges from hyper-real conceptual art projects to clean elegant couture wedding cakes.

Before Sullivan started baking she honed her artistic eye working in publishing as photo director of Parenting and Smart Money Magazine. Her art department background informs her approach to baking, which is thoughtfully handmade yet tech-forward, (3D printers and confetti cannons!) Kate’s collaborated with people from a multitude of disciplines, like making a cake replica of the Whitney Museum for a renowned artist for a performance in the Whitney, and joining forces with a world-class ice sculptor for a cake competition.

“I love that cake is about an expression of love & affection.  I love that its impermanent,  it exists as gift to acknowledge and celebrate a milestone in someone’s life.  That it hits all the senses, you can smell, taste, touch, and see it, but that it’s gone in a moment and becomes part of a lasting memory.”
